About: Our competition entry for the Ukraine Garden landscape architecture competition proposed the revitalization of the current Lembitu park as a vibrant center for leisure with renewed functions (games, pavilions for work and contemplation), new paths and a playground - that would form a serpentine-like perimeter to the core of the park. In the center of the park would be new additions: a community garden for Ukrainian war refugees, a gallery space and a pavilion with a rainwater feature.

The playful design drew inspiration from the rich history of Ukraine’s culture: the community garden layout was inspired by the ornaments of the ancient Tripylia culture, while the central element is an ornamental sculpture of a stove, usually a centerpiece in old vernacular Ukraine gardens. The stove would have been realised as a playful Jean-Dubuffet-inspired sculpture covered with a mosaic depicting the artwork of the Ukrainian artist Daria Titova who was forced to flee from her homeland after the Russian invasion began in 2022.
